We had the opportunity to admire the latest achievements of other companies specialized in glider production. The vast majority of presented gliders were high-performance gliders, most often equipped with their own propulsion system – exhaust or electric. However, they are not intended for hard work in clubs, meaning basic training, training or advanced acrobatics. Apart from old ASK-21 and still undergoing modernization DG-1001 the most modern and most versatile in this class is undoubtedly our <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz" target="_blank">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a>.<br />
<br />
<span class="" id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="">Increasing
interest in aerobatics makes our <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-59-acro" target="_blank">SZD-59 Acro</a> gain new users as
there are still no Kobus or Swift successors on the market.</span></span><br />

<span class="" id="result_box" lang="en">Many visitors to our stand used the Abplanalp flight simulator - <a href="http://szd.com.pl/downloads/20170325_flugsimulator_A4_einseitig.pdf" target="_blank">simGlide</a>. <span class="">The
full range of glider flight positions, including the back position, allows users to familiarize with all glider configurations and
learn how to deal with any dangerous situations.</span></span><br />

the lessons learned during the AERO and reported by instructors and
pilots in the development work of the simulator.</span></span><br />

This year we will present our well known heavy-duty and fully aerobatic doubleseater <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz" target="_blank">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a>, perfect multipurpose trainer for wide application. Now with serious improvements – among other things much higher loading on board.<br />
<br />
Apart from Perkoz we will also present fully aerobatic singleseater SZD-59 Acro 2, the only one of this kind in the market. This new version of well known Acro has super light aileron drive, long wing tips (17 m), effective airbrakes only on upper wing side and other great features.<br />
<br />
In cooperation with Polish-Swiss company Abplanalp, we will also demonstrate full-flight glider simulator simGlide – the only one based on unique 4 degree free motion system. Both of these airframes are well known to the gliding community, however fe people know that recently they have undergone a significant metamorphosis taking into account comments of our current users and new clients.</div>

In <b><a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz" target="_blank">Perkoz</a></b> cabin ergonomis has been improved, a whole range of facilities for both pilots was introduced, of which the most important is a greater amount of space in the front seat, integrated rear instrument panel quipped with newest avionics, better soundproofing, new and functional mechanisms for closing and locking the cabin, as well as additional wings fitting and its securing, and many others.</div>

<a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-59-acro" target="_blank"><b>Acro</b></a> has got additional long wingtips (the certification process continues) expanding wing span to 17 m, improved aileron drive significantly reducing force on the ailerons as well as new comfortable and functional trim device on the stick.</div>

<a name='more'></a>Gustafsson his adventure with the aviation began as a child, accompanying his father on flights. At the age of 15 (as an exception to the requirement of completion of 16 years) he was admitted to the pilot training course, and soon after finishing it – on a basic course in aerobatics. 2009 was a year of his debut in aerobatics, while the years 2010 and 2014 earned him the title of world champion. <br />
<br />
Although Gustafsson is a licensed airplane pilot, he emphasizes satisfaction that he derives from a glider flight. Johan appreciates the technical characteristics of <b><a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-59-acro" target="_blank">SZD-59 Acro</a></b>, allowing both for training and high aerobatic competition, as well as on soaring. With additional, removable tips with winglets and tank with capacity of 150 liters of water,<b> <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-59-acro" target="_blank">SZD-59 Acro</a></b> is a universal glider, that could easily compete with others in its category. <br />
<br />
With an undeniable talent and a great glider Johan Gustafsson creates impressive aerobatic performances. The sequence of figures such as loop, snap roll, spin or tailslide, highlighted by red smoke is for sure a long memorable show.</div>

Winter passed, or rather did not come at all. Looking at the mountains of Beskid Śląski, there is little doubt that this year February is just a name in the calendar. Warm windy weather and lack of snow may be a bad thing for skiers but a good one for glider pilots. We use our well-equipped (including oxygen equipment) demonstrative <b><a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a></b> and as a courtesy of Polish dealer, <a href="http://pipistrel-world.com/">Skydream</a> from Bielsko-Biała, a <a href="http://pipistrel-world.com/aircraft/virus-sw-information.html#main-content">Slovenian Virus SW</a> as a tow plane. </div>

At the beginning of October 2013, a new great opportunity to promote <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz" target="_blank">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a> emerged. At the invitation of <a href="http://www.lsv-hayingen.de/" target="_blank">LSV Hayingen</a>, the German flying club operating in one of the most spectacular airfield in the region of Swabian Jura, we moved our glider there for a whole week. This time we took part in a training camp of advanced aerobatic organized under supervision of Udo Markert – a well-known German aerobatic pilot and flight instructor.</div>

<a name='more'></a>Hayingen airfield is located at the top of a hill, over 700 m above the sea level. A narrow but long grass strip allows to land in direction opposite to the take-off. Even though the airfield does not have an ICAO code it's a very popular place for gliding. </div>

German colleagues willingly chose <b><a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz" target="_blank">SZD-54 Perkoz</a></b> to practice inverted flight. Legendary pilot Uli Schwenk called Perkoz "a dream for every club." </div>

Alps on the South-East in the distance of about 100 km were noticeable while towing over the clouds and inversion level. Fresh air, unspoiled nature, great landscape and friendly people are the good reasons to visit Swabian Jura again.</div>

<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: small;">AERO seems to be a good opportunity for producers and exhibitors to attract new customers. It is also an excellent time to exchange experience in design, technology and performance, see different solutions or simply have a good time. Looking at the exhibition for several years, reviewing products offered, it seems that the crisis in the aviation is a history.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">The most rapidly growing aviation industry, of course, is ultra-light, mostly because of relatively simple airworthiness regulations that do not limit designers' imagination. The lead have the technologically advanced and luxuriously equipped aircrafts, equipped as standard with a modern EFIS, autopilot, electrically retractable landing gear and innovative wings mechanization (flaps, slots, vortex generators, etc.).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Apart from Allstar, other gliding companies were presenting their products: Zakład Szybowcowy „Jeżów”, DG-Flugzeugbau, Schempp-Hirth, Alexander Schleicher, HPH, and for light gliders – Alisport and Albastar. An interesting high-performance carbon-fibre doubleseater was shown by Idaflieg, a German student organization.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Competitors offer was very broad and well prepared. However, we did not find any glider that could rival the scope of use of the presented our single-siter <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-59-acro">SZD-59 Acro</a> or double-seater <a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a>. These gliders really fit well into the market niche and meet the growing appreciation of pilots.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Allstar was the only company to show a glider equipped with hand-rudder control system. This is a great solution for people with disabilities or those who appreciate convenience, because after many hours of flight pilot may withdraw his/her legs from the pedals. In addition, trim lever is located on stick which allows to control the glider with one hand (the right one). These are not the only changes that we have proposed. <b><a href="http://szd.com.pl/en/products/szd-54-2-perkoz">SZD-54-2 Perkoz</a> </b>undergone a major facelift for even better ergonomics (new, slim instrument panel in the second cabin, more comfortbale head rests) as well as for better visibility from the instructor's seat. We were proud to present the most ergonoic, comfortable and safest (very low boards) cabin among all the double-seaters shown at Aero 2013.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">The exhibition is also a paradise for modelmakers. „Static” stands and a part of the vast hall dedicated to flights attracted hundreds of fans of this field of aviation. Of course, the most popular type of power supply are three-phase electric engines, powered by lighter, more efficient and safer batteries.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Some solutions derived from models we saw also in general aviation. Electrically powered hang-gliders (microlights) are not unusual, most gliders are equipped with it, and in a short time we expect to find it also in the more advanced aircraft.</span><br />

Number of technical questions directed to Allstar indicates that users of SZD gliders began intensive pre-season work on their gliders. That's good, because before the first take-offs in the season you might want to prepare your glider as best as possible.<br />
<br />
Technical verification should proceed in parallel with updating airworthiness documents. Remember that even the best-prepared documents such as maintenance checks, SBs or life-limited parts records will not improve the flight safety, if the technical verification and repairs will not be done.</div>

<a name='more'></a>EASA impose certain rules for the inspection and maintenance. The quintessence of these regulations is Maintenance Program acc. to M.A.302 for Part M of (EC) No 2042/2003. Depending on the provisions in the Program, you can outsource maintenance work to certified organizations (Part 145, Part M / F), or – to a limited extent – do it yourself. In the latter case, the approval of the NAA for a program for your glider in accordance with MA803 will be necessary.<br />

<div align="justify" style="text-align: justify;">
Minimum amount of maintenance work required before the season is specified in Technical Service Manual (Schedule of Maintenance Works; to check the current status of your manual visit <a href="http://www.szd.com.pl/">szd.com.pl</a>). Note, however, that the Schedule of Maintenance Works may also include other important works, such as 50/100 hour or yearly checks, TBO of releases, cables, weighing etc.<br />
<br />
Notwithstanding the foregoing, some additional unscheduled checks might be necessary. Careful verification of the airframe structure and other elements may reveal the need to remove the defects, which appeared as a result of the glider storage for the winter (unscheduled maintenance). The most common will be: </div>
<ul>
<li>damage of lacquer coat, cracks and dents, </li>
<li>stratification of composite structure (due to condensation or freezing of water), </li>
<li>corrosion of metal elements, </li>
<li>cracks in plexiglass, </li>
<li>damage to the internal structure of the fuselage or wings caused by rodents. </li>
</ul>

Special attention we turn to the possible consequences of home-made repairs, mainly painting and repainting. Even minor repairs of any flight control surface (elevator, rudder, each of the ailerons), will lead to unacceptable changes of hinge moments. As a consequence, dangerous vibration may occur (flutter). It is worth remembering that the aeroelastic phenomena are the reason for airworthiness limitations like VNE, VRA, VA. Proper mass balance of all glider controls is a basic criteria for safe exploitation.<br />
<br />
As the cases of inaccurate and unprofessional repairs are not uncommon, it is better to entrust them to professionals. You should also read the glider manuals (Flight Manual, Maintenance Manual and related publications) as it’s the absolute minimum for each user.<br />
<br />
Bear in mind that an aviation accident usually occurs as a result of combination of a number of factors, whether caused by human activity and/or the conditions in which one had to operate (the theory of J. Reason). The first flights of the season (usually after a few months break) and technical oversight in the glider after a period of downtime, are undoubtedly unfavourable circumstances.<br />
