Two-seaters SZD-50-3 Puchacz and SZD-54-2 Perkoz in Soaring Cafe

We recommend interesting articles by Jacek Kobiesa, published in the Soaring Cafe. The author, a U.S. permanent resident, describes his experience of working in the former SZD, the first after many years visit to Bielsko and his impressions after flying SZD-54-2 Perkoz.

Ski for SZD-50-3 Puchacz and SZD-54-2 Perkoz

In the near future we are planning to produce a limited series of take-off skis for the two-seater gliders SZD-50-3 Puchacz and SZD-54-2 Perkoz.

A take-off from snow is a lot of fun. Skis has been successfully used in Nowy Targ to tow gliders to the mountain wave of Tatras, and also for example in Bezmiechowa, where the take-off from the top of the slope was even shorter when using a ski as compared to a traditional wheel. Anyone who has ever had to push heavy PUCHACZ or BOCIAN through the deep snow knows that a ski is a convenient and practical solution for the winter.

Ski comes with a wheel, which allows to maneuver the glider inside the hangar or on the apron. Installation is simple and consists mainly of the removal of the nose wheel. The main undercarriage remains mounted.

Start of production is dependent on the number of interested people and the number of potential orders. Having collected the data we would be able to specify the price and estimated delivery time.

Clubs interested, please contact us via e-mail (office@szd.com.pl) or call us at (+48) 33 812 50 26.

20 meter SZD-54-2 Perkoz tests flights completed

September 29th was the last day of certification test flights of 20 m Perkoz, equipped with long wing extensions. The purpose of the tests was to confirm the compliance with requirements of CS-22 regulations for this modified version of SZD-54-2. 21 take-offs and nearly 15 FH have been flown. The tests went smoothly and confirmed all the calculation assumptions made by SZD designers and aerodynamicist.

SZD-54-2 Perkoz 20m version maiden flight done!

After several days of delay due to bad weather, our 20-meter Perkoz has made its maiden flight! Test pilot Mariusz Stajewski made the first, 45 minute program. The flight took place over Bielsko surroundings and covered some functional checks in different glider speed configurations.

And though the protocols are not yet ready, we know that transforming Perkoz into a high performance version was a great idea. The glider is perfectly stable laterally, very easy to control, with a small force on the stick. The most noticeable improvement is, however, significantly better performance (L/D).

In addition to cross-country flights the high performance version of Perkoz might also be used for  advanced wave flights. Strong rotor turbulence or some far-away head wind rides won't be a problem for Perkoz. We're glad that the fall is coming along with the season of wave flying.

We will keep you up to date on further progress in the development of this latest SZD product.
